Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’ | Japanese Flowering Cherry

Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' is a well-known and popular flowering cherry, introduced from Japan in the early 1900's. March to early May speculator showy, double-pink flowers cover the entire canopy, followed by bronze-red, large pointed, serrated leaves that turn green in summer, then burnt-orange in autumn. When young, the Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' has a vase shaped habit becoming rounded and spreading with maturity; eventually, this tree will be almost as wide as it it high. The Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' will grow in any moist, well-drained soil, preferring full sun, and it tolerates air pollution and exposed sites. The vigorous root system makes it unsuitable for paved areas or locations too close to garden walls, but it is ideal for parks, gardens ,open spaces and avenues.
