Acer platanoides ‘Crimson King’ | Crimson Norway Maple

The Acer platanoides 'Crimson King' is a cultivar of the Norway Maple. Its most outstanding feature is the large, five-lobed maple leaves that are a deep purple-crimson throughout spring and summer. Like other species of the Acer, it also has clusters of small, yellow flowers with a reddish tinge that appear before the leaves in spring. This tree has a broadly round crown that can grow almost as wide as it it high making this a good tree for shade. The Acer platanoides 'Crimson King' is a very hardy and versatile tree that will grow well in most drained soil, in full sun or light shade. It will tolerate exposed sites, coastal areas and urban pollution and is often planted along wide street verges in towns and cities. Planted as an avenue tree or a solitary specimen, the dark leaves of the this tree give an instant impact to any landscape.
