Acer platanoides ‘Globosum’ l Mop Head Norway Maple
The Acer platanoides 'Globosum' is a small/medium deciduous tree with a dense rounded crown, giving a lollipop appearance. It is grafted at the top of the stem of the Acer platanoides at approximately 2m high. As it matures the crown develops into a broad dense mop head, which remains consistent in shape and requires no pruning, although will tolerate trimming if desired. It has small yellow flowers in the spring followed by winged fruits; the leaves are large with 5/7 lobes, these are bright green turning a golden yellow and orange in the autumn. This tree like the species is naturally hardy and will thrive in most soil types, it is resilient to urban pollution, drought and compaction. The Acer platanoides 'Globosum' makes an interesting architectural specimen tree; ideal for city locations, gardens and parks and due to its minimal maintenance requirements often referred to as a "plant and forget" tree.
