Betula pendula | Silver Birch

Betula pendula is a very popular native tree seen in many gardens, parklands and woodlands across the UK. This tree has a distinctive white bark that, with maturity, develops dark cracks and a more rugged appearance. With its pyramidal shape and pendulous branches the Betula pendula provides dappled shade in the summer months. Once the leaves have fallen for winter the delicate, graceful structure of the tree with white branches creates a good screen. A valuable tree for any landscape, the Betula pendula is also vital for wildlife; it provides food and habitat for more than 300 insects!
