Cedrus atlantica ‘Glauca’ | Blue Atlas Cedar
Native to the Atlas mountains of Morocco and Algeria, the Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca' is a cultivar of the Cedrus atlantica, a large and spectacular tree with beautiful silver-blue foliage. This tree starts life as a pyramidal habit with branches that turn up at the tip. On maturity the branches grow outward and develop into a large, spreading and stately tree. Short needles are arranged in small clusters; silvery-white when young they mature to blue-green. Barrel-shaped, upright cones appear in autumn and remain on the tree as an interesting, permanent feature. The Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca' is a hardy conifer that will grow in most well-drained soil types and tolerates dry conditions and air pollution. Like most conifers it does not like to be water-logged and prefers a sunny open growing location. This tree is a fantastic focal point as a solitary specimen for parklands and large open space.
