Fagus sylvatica ‘Pendula’ I Weeping Beech
The Fagus sylvatica 'Pendula' is a large deciduous tree with a pendulous weeping habit that makes it a spectacular specimen tree. The appearance of weeping Beech can vary; some form a broad tent-like crown with wide spreading main branches draped with long pendulous side branches, which sometimes reach the ground; others, have a more upright central trunk that droops at the top with major branches extending outward horizontally before drooping downward. The leaves and bark are as the Common Beech, the wavy oval leaves are a glossy green and turn a russet brown in the autumn and can stay on the tree during the winter.
The Fagus sylvatica 'Pendula' is very undemanding and will thrive on most well drained soils, preferring full sun or partial shade, definitely not exposed or coastal sites. This tree is known for it's architectural beauty and needs space and time to reach it's full potential, an ideal tree for parklands, large estates and gardens. Also available Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea Pendula' which is smaller and will reach approx. 5m and has purple leaves.
