Heptacodium miconiodes | Seven-sons Tree

Native to China, the Heptacodium miconiodes is a very interesting, deciduous shrub or small tree with all year round appeal. It has an attractive bark that is creamy-beige and peels in long thin strips. Distinctive large, oval green leaves curl downwards and have a purple-tinge in autumn. In late summer through to late autumn, clusters of small, fragrant white flowers appear on long panicles, and fall with the first frost. The calyx then turns an attractive rose-pink and purple colour making the plant appear to flower a second time. The Heptacodium miconiodes is hardy and will grow in most moist well-drained soil, it likes a sheltered spot and is shade tolerant. A fabulous tree for any garden and a favourite with butterflies and bees.
