Magnolia stellata I Star Magnolia

Magnolia stellata is a slow growing deciduous shrub or small tree native to Japan. It is best known for the stunning display of pure white star shaped flowers which open in early spring before the leaves; the flowers are star shaped, approximately 10cm in width and with up to 18 narrow, delicate spreading tepals. The leaves are narrow and slender and emerge a glossy green, sometimes developing bronze tints in the summer. The Magnolia stellata is a lovely tree for a small garden, it prefers well drained neutral to acidic soil and thrives best in a sheltered location away from strong winds.
