Malus ‘Rudolph’ I Crab Apple ‘Rudolph’

The Malus 'Rudolph' is a small deciduous tree which is fairly upright when young and becomes more rounded with age. It's best feature is the stunning display of large, single, deep pink flowers which cover the tree in April and May before the leaves emerge. The glossy oval leaves are also very impressive and add colour and interest to this tree; they emerge a bronze red, and over the summer turn shades of bronze, purple and green with the red veins and stems remaining, then in the autumn before they fall they give a final colour change to yellow. Autumn also brings an abundance of small red orange crab apples, valuable food for wildlife as they will remain on the tree well into winter. The Malus 'Rudolph' also benefits from being resistant to pests and diseases and will thrive in all soils although not wet or waterlogged. Tolerant of pollution this is a lovely showy tree giving interest all year round with and is a joy to see in landscapes and urban areas.
