Metasequoia glyptostroboides | Dawn Redwood
The Metasequoia glyptostroboides is a large, fast-growing, deciduous conifer known only as a fossil until discovered in South Western China in the 1940's. This is a sturdy tree with a perfectly vertical main trunk and broadly pyramidal crown. It has lush, bright green, flat needles that are soft and feathery, and turn a fiery orange-brown in autumn before falling. The Metasequoia glyptostroboides has a distinctive bark that is shaggy in appearance and dark mahogany-brown in colour. This tree will thrive in most soil, is resilient to air pollution and will tolerate standing in wet and water-logged ground. An imposing majestic tree, the Metasequoia glyptostroboides would make a stunning addition to any landscape.
